Pilates Teacher Training

This is a 600-hour Comprehensive Pilates Certification where you will be trained on all apparatus within the Garage Pilates studio space: Mat, Reformer, Tower, Chair, Spine Corrector. This program is driven by Classical Pilates work. Trainees will be taught the Classical repertoire on all pieces of Balanced Body equipment and given valuable Contemporary versions of these Classical exercises. It is our belief that Classical Pilates work is what our industry is based on. To be a Certified Pilates Instructor is to know who Joseph Pilates is and thoroughly understand his unique, precise method of working out. We also feel that the human body has different postural challenges today than it did 100 years ago. We would even go as far as to say that if Joseph Pilates were alive today, he would likely be adding to his training repertoire as well! After completing this Comprehensive Pilates

Certification at Garage Pilates, instructors will know basic anatomy, how to cue, perform and modify Classical Pilates exercises and competently teach a smooth Pilates workout for all levels of fitness. 

Hours to complete:

  • 190 observation
  • 190 teacher apprentice/Anatomy study
  • 150 practice in own body/testing
  • 70 weekends in Studio above

Observation hours will be at Garage Pilates and include ALL apparatus (Reformer, Chair and Cadillac/Tower). These can begin immediately upon payment and registration to the program. General registration opens July 15, 2026. Pre-approved candidates may register prior to this date after meeting in person at the studio and receive a discounted early bird price of $5000 + cost of manuals for the entire program. This early bird registration closes August 15th and the price goes back to the original $6000 + manuals.

Teacher apprentice hours will be at Garage Pilates. Trainees will reach out to GP instructors and offer to assistant in teaching classes that are on the schedule. At this point, the instructor will give you a portion of the class to teach or another supportive role that might be necessary to assist with instructing classes. The entire 190 hours will be completed at Garage Pilates. These hours can begin after 25 observation hours are completed. Further along in your certification process, studio classes on Monday and Thursday 3:30 & 4:30 timeslots will be devoted to Trainees teaching clients who will receive the lesson at a reduced rate. A Garage Pilates instructor will be supervising and providing guidance and feedback during these hours. Trainees will acquire liability insurance prior to teaching and list Garage Pilates as additional insured.

Practicing Pilates in your own body can be completed by taking classes at Garage Pilates, or working out by yourself on unused equipment during operational hours for no additional fee. These hours can begin immediately upon payment and registration to the program. It is HIGHLY recommended that these be more Classical in nature for the fluidity of your educational process.

Weekend hours in the studio are the actual weekends that you attend the required training sessions in the Garage Pilates studio space. These will be 70 hours.

Pricing:

We understand that a certification program is an investment in you and your future. Much like a college course at a reputable university, this Pilates Teacher Training program will require your time, energy, maximum effort, and financial commitment. For that reason, we do offer a payment plan. Your two options of payment are: 

  1. $5000 as an initial one-time payment to include all the weekend in-person sessions, observation hours, supervised apprentice teaching hours and 10% off Class packages from time of payment through March 31, 2027.
  2. $1000 for each separate in-person workshop due 30 days before workshop date, totally $6000. This includes everything listed above excluding the discounted packages.
  • The Mat Pilates manual that you are required to bring to the September workshop is “Return to Life Through Contrology” and available to purchase online, often found via Amazon.
  • The Reformer, Cadillac and Chair manuals are $85 each on Amazon.
  • The Basic anatomy book is available on Amazon at approximately $80.

Keep in mind, earning your hours begins the moment you submit payment so the earlier you enroll = the easier it is to complete required hours above. Payment forms accepted are Venmo, check, credit card and cash.

Miscellaneous 

Graduates of the Garage Pilates Teacher Training program will have an open invitation to return free of charge to any in-person workshop for the next round of Trainees as a refresher course. You will be expected to track your own hours on an excel spreadsheet with a clear tally column and email those to the studio monthly.

Exam:

There will be periodic quizzes on the Classical exercises that were presented over the weekend workshops. There will be a final exam on all apparatus comprised of both the Trainee performing a level-appropriate Classical workout on each apparatus, as well as teaching another individual a Classical workout on each apparatus. These exams will be scheduled based on the progress that the trainee is making to be completed by May 30, 2027.
