Why Garage Pilates Is Different
A Pilates Studio in Orange County With More Than Reformer
If you’re searching for Reformer Pilates in Orange County, you’ve probably noticed that most Pilates studios focus primarily on one thing: the Reformer.
At Garage Pilates in Los Alamitos, the Reformer is an important part of what we do—but it’s only one piece of the Pilates method.
We offer Reformer, Mat, Tower and Chair Pilates in small classes limited to six students. That means you can come to Garage Pilates looking for a great Reformer class and discover an opportunity to experience the broader Pilates method in more in-depth way.
More apparatus. More ways to move. More ways to grow.
That’s what makes Garage Pilates different.
Reformer Pilates in Orange County, Taught in Small Groups
Garage Pilates offers small-group Reformer Pilates classes in Los Alamitos, Orange County, with a maximum of six students per class.
The Reformer is an incredibly versatile piece of Pilates equipment. Its springs provide resistance and assistance that can help build strength, improve alignment, develop control and challenge your body in ways that are difficult to replicate on a mat alone.
But we believe the equipment is only part of the experience.
The instructor matters.
In a six-person Reformer class, your instructor has the opportunity to observe how you move, explain the purpose behind an exercise, offer corrections, make appropriate modifications and help you progress as your skills develop.
Whether you’re brand new to Reformer Pilates or an experienced practitioner, our goal is for you to understand not just what you’re doing, but why you’re doing it.
More Than Reformer: Experience the Full Pilates Method
This is where Garage Pilates really stands apart.
You may find us because you’re searching for Reformer Pilates. You may stay because you discover everything else Pilates has to offer.
Our studio offers opportunities to practice:
Mat Pilates
The original foundation of the Pilates method. Mat work teaches you to control and strengthen your body using your own resistance, without relying on equipment.
Reformer Pilates
The Reformer adds spring resistance, support and feedback, creating endless possibilities for strength, mobility, balance, coordination and control.
Tower Pilates
The Tower introduces springs, bars and additional resistance to the Pilates experience. Tower work can complement Reformer and Mat Pilates while providing unique challenges, highlight asymmetrical weaknesses and give support that you won’t get from the Reformer alone.
Chair Pilates
The Pilates Chair is one of the most challenging and versatile pieces of Pilates equipment. It develops strength, balance, stability and control in ways that are completely different from the Reformer.
Together, the Mat, Reformer, Tower and Chair create a much more complete Pilates experience.
So if you came looking specifically for a Reformer class, we’re glad you found us.
But don’t stop there.
Six Students. That’s It.
We intentionally keep our Pilates classes small, with a maximum of six students per class.
Why?
Because good Pilates instruction requires observation.
Our instructors need to be able to see how you move, recognize when something needs to be adjusted, explain why an exercise is being performed a certain way and give you individual feedback.
In a six-person class, you aren’t simply following along with a workout.
You’re being taught.
Our small-group Pilates classes create an environment where beginners can feel supported and experienced practitioners can continue refining their technique.
Experienced Instructors Who Take Pilates Seriously
We believe the quality of a Pilates studio is ultimately determined by the quality of its teachers.
At Garage Pilates, our instructors are experienced, mature, educated Pilates professionals who have chosen Pilates as their profession. They bring years of experience, personal practice and teaching knowledge to the studio.
Our instructors don’t view certification as the end of their education.
They attend workshops, pursue continuing education, study the method and continually refine their teaching skills. They learn from one another and continue developing their understanding of movement, anatomy and the Pilates repertoire.
That depth of experience matters.
Pilates is a sophisticated movement system. Becoming an exceptional instructor requires much more than memorizing exercises. It requires understanding the purpose behind each exercise and knowing how to teach different bodies effectively.
Great Pilates teachers never stop being students of the method.
We Develop the Next Generation of Pilates Teachers
Our commitment to education also extends to the future of Pilates instruction.
Garage Pilates offers a 500-hour, year-long comprehensive Pilates teacher-training program covering Mat, Reformer, Tower, Chair and Spine Corrector, along with Pilates history, principles, anatomy and supervised teaching experience.
The program reflects the same standards we expect from our instructors.
When we have an opportunity for a new instructor at Garage Pilates, we have the ability to draw from teachers who have been educated within our own Pilates community.
And importantly, certification isn’t the end of that relationship.
Our newer instructors receive ongoing mentorship, feedback and guidance as they build confidence and experience as professional teachers.
This allows experienced instructors to share their knowledge while newer teachers continue developing their skills in a supportive environment.
We don’t just hire instructors. We invest in them.
Classical Pilates Roots. A Modern Approach to Teaching.
Garage Pilates honors the original work of Joseph Pilates and the classical Pilates repertoire while recognizing that today’s instructors also have access to decades of additional knowledge about anatomy, movement and teaching.
We don’t believe you have to choose between honoring the roots of Pilates and continuing to learn.
We respect where Pilates came from while continuing to grow as teachers.
Our goal is to help each client experience the principles of Pilates—control, concentration, centering, precision, breath and flow—in a way that is challenging, intelligent and appropriate for their body.
Locally Owned. Community Rooted.
Garage Pilates isn’t a franchise.
We’re a locally owned, family-run small business, and our connection to the community goes far beyond the walls of our studio.
Garage Pilates owner Kristin DiMiceli and her family have deep roots in the Los Alamitos and Seal Beach communities. Her three children have attended the Los Alamitos school district and participated in the Seal Beach Junior Lifeguards program, making the communities we serve the communities her family has called home.
Kristin is also actively involved in the local business and nonprofit community. She serves on the Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, participates in Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce events and has the privilege of serving as a marketing chairwoman for The Youth Center, a local nonprofit serving children and families.
For us, being a small business isn’t just about how Garage Pilates is structured.
It’s about how we show up.
We’re invested in the people, families, businesses and neighborhoods around us. We’re proud to be a locally owned Pilates studio in Los Alamitos, and we’re committed to providing exceptional Pilates instruction while helping build a stronger, more connected community.
More Than a Workout
At Garage Pilates, we want you to leave class feeling like you’ve accomplished something—not simply that you’ve spent 50 minutes exercising.
We want you to understand your body better.
We want you to feel stronger and more capable.
We want you to notice the little things: your posture, your alignment, your balance, your breath and the way you move.
And because our classes are small, our instructors have the opportunity to know you—not just your name, but how you move, what you’re working toward and where you can continue to grow.
That’s what creates the Garage Pilates community.
